About Me

Hi, I’m Brenda Mclackland, a clinical psychologist specialising in relationships between parents or carers and babies or children.

My Experience

I have had a twenty five year career in the NHS, mainly working as a Perinatal Clinical Psychologist. I worked with parents to be and parents up to the child’s first birthday helping them to bond with their baby. Many people who find this difficult have had problems in their own lives, often their childhood. Once these are resolved bonding is much easier.

I have also spent the last ten years supporting Foster Carers and Adopters.

In 2009 I drew on my experience in both roles to develop Comfort Zone, an approach to help parents bond with their baby.

My Background

I was born in Wallsend on Tyneside. Years later I returned to the neighbourhood where I had lived as a child, to work as a Clinical Psychologist with parents and babies! When I was little, women were mainly involved with looking after babies, but by the time I returned men were involved too.
